Summer 2008 Orientation Assistant Contract

I, _________________, accept the appointment as an Orientation Assistant in the residence halls of Ball State University for Summer Conferences 2008, and I understand that the following conditions are a part of this acceptance:

  1. This agreement is for Summer Orientation Program 2008. Employment as an Orientation Assistant is contingent upon the approval of the residence hall director and the Office of Housing and Residence Life. Reapplication is necessary for each subsequent summer of employment, and employment for each summer is contingent on the approval of the residence hall director and the Office of Housing and Residence Life.
  2. The specific dates of employment are May 19, 2008 through July 18, 2008.
  3. I, as the Orientation Assistant, or the Office of Housing and Residence life, upon written notice, may terminate this agreement at any time during the period of the agreement. As the Orientation Assistant, I must provide my supervisor with at least one week notice if I choose to terminate the agreement. If termination occurs, I understand I am ineligible for summer housing effective the date of termination.
  4. An OA (opening/closing preparation, staff meetings, duty rotations, initial/closing room/building damage checks and/or other duties as assigned) will be compensated in part by a salary equal to the cost of a single room. An OA will be paid the minimum hourly wage for desk hours (mail and orientation check-in/out), training, and orientation shirts (if applicable). OAs agree to work approximately 20 hours per week.
  5. With the approval of a director, an Orientation Assistant may be permitted to be employed in another capacity on or off campus. This work may not in any way affect the responsibilities of conference or desk operations in the halls. The Orientation Assistant position will be of primary importance.
  6. An Orientation Assistant must remain on-campus and be available for orientation desk work a minimum of two weekends per month. The Office of Housing and Residence Life reserved the right to deny requests for time-off.
  7. An Orientation Assistant must participate in training programs that are hold throughout the term of summer employment. The Orientation Assistant will attend all required special meetings and events.
  8. An Orientation Assistant must participate in mail forwarding responsibilities and building closing responsibilities until the final date of employment.
  9. An Orientation Assistant is required to serve as the duty/contact person as scheduled through the summer.
  10. An Orientation Assistant must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.2 or higher at the time of employment.  An OA may not take classes during time of employment.
  11. An Orientation Assistant is expected to be a positive role model through personal example.
  12. An Orientation Assistant is expected to respect the dignity of all individuals and refrain from language or behavior that would be incongruent with that respect.
  13. In accepting this contract, the Orientation Assistant's loyalty, commitment, and fulfillment of expectation must be to Ball State University, the Office of Housing and Residence Life, and the residence hall director and/or assistant residence hall director.
