Summer Orientation Assistant Job Description (2008)
Summer Orientation Assistants are often times the first person a guest comes in contact with while attending summer orientation at Ball State University. An OA's primary responsibility is efficient and quality customer service to the guests. The OAs are staff members of the Office of Housing and Residence Life and are supervised directly by an assistant residence hall director or hall director.General Responsibilities
- Actively support and demonstrate the Housing and Residence Life Mission and Diversity Statements
- Maintain a supportive and cooperative attitude in regard to fellow staff members and supervisors
Orientation Responsibilities
- Provide effective and quality customer service to all guests
- Serve as a source of information concerning Ball State University and the Muncie community
- Facilitate orientation check-ins (approx. 7:30 A.M.-9 A.M.), hall assignments (approx. 9 A.M.-11 A.M.), hall check-in (approx. 3:45-6 P.M.) and check-outs (approx. 6:30 A.M.-9 A.M.), Luggage check-out approx. 2-4 P.M.) with fellow OAs.
- Initially inspect rooms for damages and daily log "lost and found" items
- Communicate, role model, and consistently enforce HRL handbook and conference policies
- Report all emergencies and situations to their supervisor(s)
Desk/Administration Responsibilities
- Complete room inventories and public area inventories for the hall
- Construct and maintain hall bulletin boards, informational signs, and other decorations as directed
- Work desk shifts in accordance to the supervisor's expectations (7 P.M.-11 P.M.).
- Maintain computer database and cash register for orientation hotel guests
- Participate in key inventories
- Provide linen service to all conference guests
- Abide by all desk staff expectations
Duty Responsibilities
- Post Conference Assistant/desk emergency contact information
Meeting Responsibilities
- Attend all staff meetings as deemed necessary by your assistant hall director or hall director
- Attend any training, individual or staff meeting your assistant hall director or hall director deems appropriate
Compensation
- Single AC room (for opening/closing preparation including initial/closing room/building damage checks, staff meetings, duty rotation and/or other duties as assigned), a value of approximately $1,482.00
- $5.85 per hour for desk hours (mail, pre-orientation room checks, orientation check-in and out) and training
- Heat 'n' Keep and bike lockers available upon request at no charge
