2007 – 2008 Academic Year Selection Process
Step 1: The Application
What: Application available on-line October 4
When: Available online at www.bsu.edu/housing/studentemployme October 4, 2007 – January 11, 2008 at Noon.
Your Responsibility: Complete the application, thoroughly and without error. Once you complete the application you will receive a confirmation e-mail -- print it off!
Step 2: RA/MA/CA Info Night
What: This is an information night for everyone who is interested in applying for the Resident Assistant, Multicultural Assistant, or Community Aide positions. We will discuss each position and how the selection process works. You will also get the chance to meet current student and professional staff members!
When: Tuesday, October 3, 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. in the Park Hall Multipurpose Room.
Your Responsibility: This event is not required but highly encouraged! If you do attend, bring an open mind and a positive attitude!
Step 3: Sign Up for EDHI 200
What: EDHI 200 is a 1 credit hour course focused on residence hall leadership, and is a required part of the selection process.
When: You can sign up for EDHI when you register for your other spring courses.
Your Responsibility: This is a required part of the process. Make sure you are enrolled in a section of EDHI for Spring 2007. Employment is contingent upon passing EDHI with a C grade or higher.
Step 4: In-Hall Interviews
What: You will be interviewed by staff members from your current residence hall and another building. This is a 30 minute interview. Dress is business casual.
When: Wednesday, January 23- Friday, January 25
Your Responsibility: You will be contacted to set up an interview time. Follow the directions precisely and ask questions if you need more information. Also make sure you arrive at your interview on time (unless you have an academic commitment) and be ready to put your best foot forward!
Step 4.5: MA Group Process (Multicultural Assistant Candidates Only)
What: Students who pass the in-hall interviews will give a brief presentation about a social justice topic. This presentation will be in front of other candidates and current staff members.
When: Thursday, January 31
Your Responsibility: You will be given social justice topics to choose from and a time limit for your presentation. Arrive to the group process on time, stay on topic, and within your time limit. Make sure to listen attentively to other candidates.
Step 5: Hall Director Interviews
What: Students who pass the in-hall interviews will spend 30 minutes in a hall director interview. Two to five hall directors from across campus will ask you questions about the position and your leadership skills.
When: Wednesday, February 6-Friday, February 8
Your Responsibility: You will be contacted to set up an interview time. Follow the directions precisely and ask questions if you need more information. Also make sure you arrive at your interview on time and be ready to put your best foot forward!
Step 5: Notification Letters
What: We will send you one of three letters.
1) A congratulations letter offering you a position in a specific building or apartment community.
2) An alternate letter explaining that while we consider you a hire-able candidate we are not offering you employment at this time. If you receive this letter we will place you in an alternate pool and keep you on file for consideration if more positions become available.
3) A letter thanking you for your time and interest in the position.
When: Friday, February 29
Your Responsibility: Recognize that these decisions (including your placement if hired) are final and not subject to negotiation. If you are hired you will need to formally accept the position and complete a contract.
