Housing and Residence Life
Room Sign Up - Freshmen
Information about Housing/Dining Sign Up 2008 for Freshman and Transfer Students

If you are a new freshman or transfer student who plans to begin at Ball State in the fall, and checked on your application for admission that you wish to live in the residence halls, and have paid the $100 enrollment deposit (to the Office of Admissions), a packet of information will be mailed to your home address. Enclosed you will find a housing/dining contract, a roommate information card, and other helpful information for you and your family to learn more about living on-campus.

These packets will begin to be sent out in mid-March and will continue throughout the spring and summer to students meeting the above criteria.

At Ball State, room and board is a package, where students live and eat on-campus. When you complete the housing contract, you will specify the accommodations you prefer (i.e., all-female, SURF, etc.). In addition, you will select a meal plan at this time. (If you do not choose a meal plan, you automatically will be assigned to the Any 18-Plus Meal Plan.)

The Roommate Search Web helps students identify other students who have similar living habits (i.e., I like to sleep late, I don't like to listen to loud music, etc.) and then gives contact information so students may talk more about their preferences in person. You don't have to use the Roommate Search Web if you already know who your roommate will be or if you prefer to be assigned a roommate.

(Please note: Due to the increased number of students returning to the residence halls and the anticipated size of the freshman class, roommate requests and roommate changes postmarked after June 1 are not likely to be honored. We understand that many students meet potential roommates at Orientation and that although in the past we have been able to accommodate late roommate requests, this year we simply do not have the extra space to make changes after this date. We apologize for any inconvenience our space limitations may cause you. )

Also, if you are a transfer or non-traditional student and meet the eligibility requirements, you may wish to live at the University Apartments.
