Learning Objectives
On-campus students are also encouraged to learn in the residence halls, as well as in the classroom. The Office of Housing and Residence Life also strives to assist students to live and learn by the following Learning Objectives:
Students will:
- Express thoughts in a clear, concise, and respectful manner.
- Incorporate a variety of viewpoints into their understanding of the world.
- Respect their environment and individuals within it.
- Establish healthy interdependence.
- Constructively demonstrate their societal rights and responsibilities.
- Explore their values.
Living and Learning Communities
If you are pursuing a major in communications, pre-business, or nursing, there are specific residence halls that allow students the chance to live with others within these areas of study, encouraging interaction outside the classroom. Faculty members from these schools and colleges are involved to facilitate student study sessions and advise students. Most first-time freshmen studying these majors will be assigned to these halls, while upperclass students may make this request when renewing their housing/dining contracts. We have found that the students living in these residential communities get better grades, interact more with faculty, and just enjoy living with their peers who are pursuing similar degrees and interests.
Good Value
We think living on campus is an excellent value. Living on campus connects you with the university in a way that most off-campus locations cannot. Living in a residence hall allows you to live where all the academic, social, and sporting events take place. Students also may take advantage of in-house computer labs, low-cost laundry facilities, fitness centers, study lounges, and even your own computer connection. On-campus students have no monthly cable bills to pay, meals to prepare, or pots and pans to wash.
