If you are an Indiana applicant who earns the Indiana Academic Honors Diploma or an out-of-state applicant who pursues a comparable curriculum, you may be invited to apply for Honors College admission if you have a 3.6 Academic Index, as calculated by the Ball State Office of Admissions. Your application for the Honors College will be considered only after you have also been admitted to Ball State.
Other factors considered in determining Honors College admission are
- the number of AP or IB or other special academic courses completed
- extracurricular activities and leadership experiences
- letters of reference from teachers familiar with your potential for college academic work
- standardized test scores. Students are encouraged to take both the SAT and the ACT (though either is acceptable) and to re-take the test if the scores are low or marginal. (Your highest score will be used.) Ball State calculates your SAT composite from your highest sub-scores, not necessarily the highest single test; placement and advanced standing are also determined by the highest sub-scores on either test.
Students who do not receive an invitation to apply may do so by downloading the Honors College Application and submitting it to the Ball State Offie of Admissions, as noted on the form. Applicants to the Honors College must already have been admitted to Ball State. Responses to completed Honors College applications are normally sent within three weeks of receipt of all application materials.
Honors College admission closes May 1. Students applying to the Honors College after April 15 are advised to contact the Honors College directly to ensure that the application is considered on time.
Regular Admission to Ball State
Ball State practices "rolling admission." This means your application to the University will be reviewed and an admission decision made once all of your credentials are received. Admission to a particular semester may depend on space available and the date of your application.
