Welcome to the Social Studies Teaching Major Information page. Here you will find all of the necessary information that will help you succeed throughout the entire accreditation process. Follow the links listed on the right side of the page to navigate through all of the different decision points, documents, and contact information concerning the social studies teaching major.

In particular,  the Social Studies Teaching Majors' Handbook is updated to reflect recent changes and is in a new format to make it easier to edit it as new changes evolve. You may access it at any time and compare it with print copies you already have (which it supersedes), or you may simply consult it as needed.

You are responsible for familiarizing yourselves with general university requirements, TC requirements, and requirements in your content areas as outlined in these sites.

ATTENTION SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHING MAJORS.....

Please review the dates and deadlines listed below for the academic year 2007-2008.

  • Portfolio workshops 
    • FALL SEMESTER October 9 at 3:30 in BB 101—required for submitting Historical Perspectives portfolio
    • SPRING SEMESTER February 25 at 3:30 in BB 101—required for submitting Historical Perspectives portfolio
  • Deadline for signing up for DP 2 & 3 Exam:
    • FALL: October 17
    • SPRING: March 4
  • DP 2 & DP 3 Exam
    • FALL: November 1 beginning at 3 pm. 
    • SPRING: March 18 beginning at 3 pm. 
  • DP 3 AUTUMN Portfolio Submission Deadline 
    • November 6 at 11:59 p.m.  (for ALL Social Studies fields). These DP3 dates are university-wide. Do NOT be late.  Send yourself a copy of the e-mail submitting your URL and retain it as evidence of submission in addition to sending it to sedrakebrown@bsu.edu.
    • November 20: Faculty Evaluations Due
    • December 7: Portfolio Re-submissions by Students Due (if remediation is needed)
    • December 17:  Faculty Re-Evaluations of Portfolios Due (if needed)
  • DP 3 SPRING Portfolio Submission Deadline 
    • March 25 at 11:59 p.m. (for ALL Social Studies fields). These DP3 dates are university-wide. Do NOT be late.  Send yourself a copy of the e-mail submitting your URL and retain it as evidence of submission in addition to sending it to sedrakebrown@bsu.edu.
    • April 8: Faculty Evaluations Due

  • DP 2 SPRING Portfolio Submission Deadline for Historical Perspectives
    • April 14 at 11:59 p.m. DP 2 dates are determined by departments. No initial submissions of portfolios will be accepted after that date until the November 2008 submissions. Do NOT be late.  Send yourself a copy of the e-mail submitting your URL and retain it as evidence of submission in addition to sending it to sedrakebrown@bsu.edu.
