Biography
Gregory Witkowski joined the Department in the Fall 2005.  He is the recipient of a summer stipend from the National Endowment for the Humanities in 2005. He spent the 2006-2007 academic year as a Fulbright scholar in Germany. Witkowski’s first research project analyzed the communist use of campaigns to implement an ambitious program of modernist state planning, tentatively titled, Workers to the Countryside! Mobilizing the Masses in East Germany.   His second research project involves an examination of East German charitable and philanthropic campaigns, which supported causes in African nations. His research has been supported by grants from the German Academic Exchange Service, the Social Science Research Council, and the American Historical Association. Witkowski has published an article in Central European History and has another forthcoming in German History.
