Biography

Sergei Zhuk joined the Department in August of 2003.  He received a Mellon Fellowship in International Studies and spent January to August 2004 at the Kluge Center for International Scholars at the Library of Congress.   Zhuk’s book, Russia's Lost Reformation: Peasants, Millennialism, and Radical Sects in Southern Russia and Ukraine, 1830-1917, was published in 2004 by the Woodrow Wilson Center Press/Johns Hopkins University Press. His book release was organized by the Kennan Institute at the Woodrow Wilson Center for International Scholars in Washington, D.C. on November 30, 2004.  Dr. Zhuk is writing now a book “Illusions of the West in the Closed City: Cultural Consumption, Identities and Transgressions of Late Socialism in Soviet Ukraine, 1964-1984."
