History Department
African-American Studies Program

The African-American Studies minor explores the history, culture, and life of black Americans to help students gain an understanding of the black experience and an appreciation for the contributions African Americans have made to American society. The knowledge students will acquire will help them understand relationships between Blacks and Whites and prepare them for work in a multi-racial and multi-ethnic society. Regardless if students seek careers in history, journalism, business, education, law, radio, television, social work, criminal justice, health care, or urban planning, they will enter a racially and ethnically diverse workforce. The African-American Studies minor will aid them in navigating this multi-cultural world.
