The Dwight W. Hoover Scholorship
For Graduate Studies in History
The Department of History
Ball State University
2009
The Dwight W. Hoover Scholorship for Graduate Studies in History supports:
(1) Ball State graduate students or seniors who soon will become graduate students by next autumn at this University are eligible for the award.
(2) Students who show special interest in and/or potential for research in community history and in the United States or abroad.
Recipients may use funds in 2009-2010 to pay for tuition and or other expenses of study, including foreign travel. This award honors a former member of the departmental faculty noted for his research, particularly in community history. After Professor Hoover's distinguished service at Ball State from 1959 to 1991, a person who studied under his guidance established this award as a tribute to him. Other members of this student's family have since joined in funding this scholorship. It is administered by the Department of History. Application forms are available online or from the Department of History main office, Burkhardt Room 200. Students must submit the completed form, two letters of recommendation, and a 500-word statement by February 20, 2009. This statement should explain the applicant's interest in advanced historical study with particular attention to pursuits, such as community studies or scholarly travel that are especially important to her or him. The Department will notify the recipient(s) of the Hoover Scholorship by March 20, 2009. The person(s) so honored will receive a scholorship that must be applied to educational expenses such as tuition, books or other material used in coursework, or research or travel expenses.
