Conference Theme

Ball State University's 2007 Greening of the Campus conference is the seventh in a series dating from 1996. The theme for next fall's event — "Partnering for Sustainability: Enabling a Diverse Future" — simultaneously highlights two desirable approaches to sustainability.

Partnering among members of the communities of which colleges and universities are a part facilitates powerful approaches to addressing threats to sustainability through multiple perspectives, interests, and strengths.

A diverse future preserves the richness in knowledge, skills, and perspectives arising from the variety of cultures with differing world views, practices, institutions, and languages; the diversity of ecosystems and the animals and plants (wild and domestic) that they comprise; and the diverse models of approach to agriculture, business, health care, and education.

We invite you to explore the important role colleges and universities play in cultivating the awareness, understanding, and ability of students, faculty, professional staff, and their many public constituencies to enhance the health, integrity, and long-term sustainability of the places where they live and work.

We also encourage you to share how your institution is partnering for sustainability and enabling a diverse future through academic programs, research initiatives, community outreach, and resource management.
