Tour of Paws Inc. Solar Aquatic Waste Treatment Facility
Registrants will enjoy a guided tour of a working solar aquatic waste treatment plant. Paws, Inc. is the company of internationally recognized cartoonist Jim Davis, the creator of "Garfield". Davis has incorporated features that reflect his strong environmental ethic into his Muncie area headquarters facilities. The solar aquatic waste treatment plant is a wastewater restoration system situated in a greenhouse that duplicates the way nature would treat waste in a rock marsh or wetland. The ecologically engineered sewage treatment plant uses solar energy, plants and animals in a system designed to enhance natural responses which biochemically change or remove contaminants from sewage. These natural responses include the appetites of bacteria for human waste, the tendency of algae to thrive in sunlit water and feed on matter broken down by bacteria, and the ability of a number of incidentally beautiful plants to take up heavy metals and metabolize them.
Please see the conference registration brochure for costs and reservation details.
Note that this tour will take place at approximately 1:30 pm on Saturday, September 8th as noted in the conference schedule and will run concurrently with other conference Sustainablity Tours.
