Applied Opportunities
The chemistry department has newly remodeled research laboratories. Instrumentation includes: JEOL Eclipse 400 and 300 MHz Multinuclear NMR Spectrometers, a Waters Alliance HPLC, a variety of HPLC and GC instruments in a Separations Laboratory, a Sorvall RC-5B refrigerated supercentrifuge, two Perkin-Elmer FTIR Spectrometers (one with an IR microscope accessory), two HP diode Array UV-VIS Spectrometers, a Jobin-Yvon Spex Fluoromax 3 fluorimeter, a Perkin-Elmer Differential Scanning Calorimeter, Perkin-Elmer AA/AE and Graphite Furnace spectrometers, and a Luzchem Laser Flash Photolysis instrument with a continuum Nd-YAG laser.
Application/Admission Requirements
Admission requirements for the master's degrees include:
- an earned bachelor's degree in chemistry or in a field with substantial chemistry backgrounds, such as biology, medical technology, pre-medicine, or pre-dentistry
- a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale
- two academic letters of reference
- transcripts of all previous undergraduate or graduate course work
- a completed graduate application
International students must apply through the Rinker Center for International Programs.
Doctoral program applicants should contact the department for additional requirements.
Graduate Assistantships
We offer graduate assistantships for support during graduate study. The stipends are approximately $12,000 per year, plus remission of tuition. (Students are responsible for dedicated fees.) Larger stipend amounts may be available to outstanding applicants. Teaching assistants are typically assigned a six to eight weekly contact-hour teaching load in addition to their course work and research.
