Graduate School
Certificate Program in Biotechnology

Provides students with advanced laboratory skills in preparation for graduate school, medical school for careers in forensics or as research associates in the biotechnology industry. Our applied program prepares exceptionally competent graduates by:

  • teaching innovative biotechnical approaches and methodologies in small laboratory-based classes
  • providing numerous multi-disciplinary, "hands-on" laboratory experiences
  • training students in the handling of radioactivity
  • exposing students to state-of-the-art laboratories, equipment, and software
  • strengthening analytical, writing, presentation, and other professional skills
  • preparing students capable of designing, performing and publishing state-of-the-art research
  • promoting ethical and scientific decision making
  • cultivating a supportive environment that values diversity and teamwork
  • facilitating internship and employment opportunities with individuals in biotechnological industries

Degrees Offered

  • Students may enter the program as advanced undergraduates if they have the prerequisites.
  • Post-baccalaureate students may
    • enter just the one year certification program or
    • include the program as part of a masters' or doctoral degree

Prerequisite:

A course in Cell Biology

Graduate Assistantships

For those seeking a graduate degree, assistantships are available by separate application to the Department of Biology, found online at www.bsu.edu/biology. Application is strongly encouraged by March 1 for fall semester enrollment.
