TCOM 204 - International Media Management

Students discuss tradional media management issues from the Asian perspective and BSU students present contemporary topics in international media.  As always, students have "Dr. Maria's Breakout Room" in the library.  This allows them to meet their international partners in their free time to prepare for class or just talk about topics of interest to them.  The course is also supported by several websites that allow them to play and view videos that show the kinds of things they enjoy doing and the productions they like to watch. 

TCOM 299 - An Introduction to Film Trailers

Learn about the history, purposes and design principles for film trailers – the short "previews of coming attractions" designed to attract audiences to an upcoming film.  David Buckley, the professional-in-residence who will co-teach the course, is president of China Century Entertainment and is an experienced independent film producer and distributor.  Michael Holmes, the instructor of record, is Associate Director of Insight and Research in the BSU Center for Media Design.

This 1-credit course will meet five times:  September 18 and 25, and October 9, 16, and 23.  The class will meet in the Global Media Network room (BC 205).  Class sessions will be shared with film and telecommunication students at Sichuan Normal University in Chengdu, China.  Class sessions will be devoted to understanding film trailers and principles of their design.  Students will work in teams outside of class time to create trailers for selected Chinese films.  Basic audio and video production skills are assumed.

Virtual Global Classroom

Virtual Global Classroom is a culture studies program currently offered for honor students at Ball State and students at three other universities in Venezuela, Nepal, and Egypt. The class meets twice a week to discus about cultural issues including, but not limited to pop culture, terrorism, marriage and family, religions, superstitions, food, and dance. The schedule of the class depends on which country the class meets that week. Three times a semester, the class switches partners within the four countries.

Indiana Charther School

The Indiana Charther School is an organization to communicate to schools across the state of Indiana. It is a virtual special education cooperative that provides services to 36 schools across Indiana, connects people located at the schools for assistance, and in charge of video conferencing technology. The video conference is used for case conferences, staff development and training, personnel interviews and hiring, and screening assessments.
