G/T Endorsement
The Center for Gifted Studies and Talent Development is housed in the Teachers College at Ball State University. It was created in 1994 to identify, promote, and develop giftedness; conduct research for the purposes of improving programs for, and creating a better understanding of, the needs of gifted and talented individuals; provide professional development programs for all who work with gifted and talented individuals; and make information about all aspects of the gifted and talented more accessible. The Center prepares teachers to meet the academic needs of gifted students both within and outside the regular classroom by offering courses leading to an endorsement in Gifted and Talented Education. The basic requirement for a GT Endorsement is 15 graduate hours of coursework (5 classes). The course “Education of Gifted Children” (SPCED 520) is a prerequisite of the course “Identification & Evaluation of Gifted & Talented Students” (SPCED 621). An elective choice of “Counseling Gifted & Talented Students” (CPSY 675) or “Creative Thinking” (EDPSY 611) is available. However, both courses (CPSY 675 and EDPSY 611) are required if you hold a professional license. Most coursework is available at the Teachers College on the Ball State University campus, although a few courses are offered off-site in Indianapolis, or via Internet (See 1999 BSU Class Schedule below).
