STANDARD: Measurement –Temperature
(Indiana Standard #5)
KEY
CONCEPT: A thermometer can be used to measure temperature.
GENERALIZATION: Temperature
can be measured in Fahrenheit or Celsius. Temperature describes how hot or cool
an object is.
BACKGROUND: The teacher will question
prior knowledge of how we measure temperature and emphasize how to signify
temperature by using the symbol for degree and indicate that as the temperature
increases the numbers increase and decrease as they get cooler.
TIERED IN: Process
TIER I: BELOW
GRADE LEVEL LEARNERS
Using a worksheet with
drawings of thermometers and sample temperatures in F and C the students will
shade in designated area to show correct temperatures.
TIER II: GRADE
LEVEL LEARNERS
Ask students to draw five pictures showing children dressed appropriately for different temperatures. Have them write a reasonable F or C temperature beside each picture.
TIER III: Students will be
given jars of various temperatures of water and a worksheet. They will measure and record the temperature
of each using both F and C scales.
Assessment: Students will give oral presentation of
the results of their level of work to show mastery. Teacher will assess understanding informally during the
discussion.
