be able to multiply single digit numbers.
They will know and be able to use the Five’s Multiplication Facts.
Background: Students will understand the concept of multiplication as repeated addition. The two’s timetable will have been mastered.
Tiered in process
Tier I: Students will use cut
out cars on the flannel board to create 5’s multiplication.
Example: Students will use cut out cars of two rows of
five cars to show 2x5.
They will demonstrate 8 facts.
Tier II: Students will use
graph paper and a crayon to chart facts using the 5’s timetable.
Example: Students will color 2 rows of five blocks to
show 2x5.
Tier III: Students will write
a story problem using the 5’s multiplication facts and also write a number
sentence to show how it should be solved.
Assessment: Teacher observation for correctness of each Tier will be used for assessment. Students will explain multiplication as repeated addition.
