Student Life - Diversity Symposium - Mosaic: Connecting the Pieces
The Diversity Symposium will take place on Saturday, January 25, 2014 from 9:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. in the L.A. Pittenger Student Center at Ball State University. The mission of the Diversity Symposium is to celebrate diversity by bringing together Ball State students, faculty and staff to learn more about themselves and others as multicultural beings. This year marks the 2nd annual Diversity Symposium and will serve as a forum for participants to explore various cultures, identity dimensions, and unique experiences that make up the human experience. This year's theme is Mosaic: Connection the Pieces. Every person has a story. Our stories are unique, powerful, and shaped by past experiences as well as driven by current challenges. The goal of this year's symposium is to help participants: 1. Construct meaning from ideas and concepts related to diversity and inclusion; 2. Explore unique human experiences that make up the human experience; 3. Understand the intersection of socially and culturally constructed identities based on race, ethnicity, gender/gender expression, sexuality, class, age, ability, and religion; and 4. Develop ways to build an inclusive community at Ball State.
The Diversity Symposium is inviting presenters (faculty, staff, and students) to submit a proposal for a concurrent session of 55 minutes. Concurrent sessions are scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m. and will run through 2:55 p.m., with a lunch break starting at 12:30 p.m. and ending at 1:00 p.m. Sessions should be designed to be interactive and conversational between presenters and participants. Proposals are due on November 14th by 12:00 p.m. and will be chosen based upon their relevance to the conference theme and goal.
