GENERAL CRITERIA FOR JOURNALISM SCHOLARSHIPS

• To apply for any undergraduate scholarship, a student MUST be enrolled at Ball State University during Spring Semester and plan to enroll for at least one semester and take at least 12 hours per semester (or two hours of internship) while the scholarship is in effect for the academic year, beginning Aug. 19, 2013. In other words, recipients must be full-time students.

A student MUST have a grade point average (GPA) of 2.6/4.0 in all course work and/or outstanding media service before she/he can apply for scholarship consideration. Media service may include student publications, internships and/or other on or off-campus media work. (Some scholarships may have an additional GPA requirements.)

• Applicants must submit copies of one to three samples of their published and/or academic work. Photocopies are acceptable. Study each description carefully (in every category) and apply ONLY for those scholarships for which you qualify. Students who have previously won one-year scholarships are invited to re-apply or apply for other applicable scholarships. Students must supply supplemental materials to the journalism department office no later than noon on Monday, Feb. 18, 2013.

• Recipients will be chosen by journalism department faculty. The journalism department reserves the right not to award a scholarship and to make adjustments to scholarship amounts based on available funding. All scholarship recipients will be awarded their scholarships at a department event in April.

• Students applying for scholarships should check the criteria for those scholarships. When the criteria include a class standing, it is the expectation that the student will be in that class beginning Fall Semester 2013.

• Scholarship awards will NOT be processed through financial aid until the recipient has written a letter of appreciation to the scholarship donor and given the letter to the department office for mailing. Check with the department office for the correct mailing address.
