International Distance Education Student Application
You are a graduate extended education student if you:

• have earned a bachelor’s degree that is comparable to a U.S. bachelor’s degree of four years (16 years of total education)

• have earned a master’s or doctoral degree that is comparable to the same from a U.S. school. (18 years of total education for masters, 21 years of total education for doctoral)

• are planning on completing a course of study that is only available on-line and will not be coming to the U.S. to pursue your degree


Extended applicants must meet the following requirements and application procedures:

1. Have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 on a U.S. 4.0 scale (some programs require higher GPA’s)

2. Meet all admission requirements established by the department to which you are applying (e.g. GRE/GMAT scores, auditions, writing samples, portfolios, etc.) Students are responsible for submitting all of the above supplemental documents directly to the department you are applying along with meeting any specific department deadlines, as per the department’s specifications for each graduate program.

3. Application Fee: $55.00 non-refundable fee • sent in the form of a Money Order or Check made out to Ball State University

4. Academic Records: All graduate applicants are required to send their academic documents earned outside of the United States to WES (World Education Services) for evaluation.
• We require the Course by Course evaluation (Including Transcripts)
• Please visit www.WES.Org for further information
o Failure to use WES evaluation services can cause a delay in the evaluation of your application

5. TOEFL/IELTS: You must submit an official TOEFL/IELTS score directly to us from Educational Testing Service (ETS).
• Ball State University School Code 1051
• Must be sent directly from ETS
• Scores of 79 IBT or 550 PBT , or above, are eligible for Regular Admission
• Visit www.TOEFL.org for further test information
General TOEFL/IELTS Exceptions
o If you have earned a degree or have 24 hours of academic study in the US you are waived from the TOEFL/IELTS
o If you have earned a degree from a native English Speaking Country like the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, you may be waived from the TOEFL/IELTS. You will need to contact us for further information.

The minimum TOEFL requirement for full admission is 550 (213 on the Computer-based test). Students with below 550 (213) are ineligible for Distance Education programs as we do not have English as a Second Language courses available on-line. The TOEFL code for BSU is 1051.
