Greek Life - Alumni Referral

While you may know the value of a participating in Greek Life at Ball State University, many of today’s high school students or current college students simply don’t know about the Greek community at Ball State. In a recent survey, only 13 percent of Ball State University non-affiliated students indicated that information was easily accessible to students before recruitment. In an effort to increase awareness, we have implemented an alumni referral process for today’s high school students and current non-affiliated Ball State students.

You can help make sure that the high school students and non-Greek Ball State students you know have a chance to learn more about the Greek community at Ball State by referring them to the Office of Student Life. Here’s how:

1. Identify Prospective Students

Relatives who might be college-bound or are enrolled at Ball State are obvious connections for referrals, but we hope you will look further off the beaten path. Think about children of friends, co-workers, neighbors and people you spend time with at church, in committees or even at soccer fields. Chapters are looking for students who have demonstrated high academic performance and are actively involved in the community or school.

2. Send us the Information

Fill out the alumni referral form. If you do not know all the information, that is okay! Just give us enough information so we can contact the student, and we will take it from there.

3. Talk the Greek experience up

Don't forget to tell the prospective student about the Greek community at Ball State! We can send brochures, Web sites, statistics and pictures to these students all day long, and none of them will make as strong an impression as one good story. Your personal story will say more about the impact/benefits of the Greek experience than anything we can do.

4. Next steps

Once you've made the referral and talked to the student, the Office of Student Life will let them know more about the Greek community at Ball State. Please note that Office of Student Life will begin corresponding with the student a few weeks after you make the referral.
