In Memory of Edith M. Davis Miss Edith M. Davis was born in Caseyville, Mississippi. She graduated from George Peabody College, received her Master's Degree from Columbia University, and did graduate work at the University of Chicago. She was a member of local, district, state and national organizations in education, home economics, vocational education as well as Soroptimist International. She was also an honorary member of the Florida Association of Future Homemakers. To home economics, Miss Davis gave unselfishly of her time, energy, thoughts and devotions. She gave direction to home economics education from 1925 to 1959 through her years of teaching high school home economics, serving as president of the Florida Home Economics Association (1943-44), serving as vice president of the Florida Vocational Association, supervising home economics education in Pinellas County, Florida Schools, coordinating a workshop for developing the State Home Economics Curriculum Guide, and organizing chapters of Future Homemakers of America. She had an unusual gift for recognizing a person's strong qualities and building upon these qualities. At the time of her death, Miss Davis was Supervisor of Home Economics for Pinellas County, Florida, Schools. She was also co-writing a junior high school home economics textbook. The money which the publisher, McGraw-Hill, settled with Miss Davis' estate was given by her family to establish a memorial scholarship fund which is still active today in Family and Consumer Sciences, Pinellas County Schools, Florida.
