Jane Bernauer
The Family and Consumer Sciences profession is fortunate to benefit from her expertise, and I am fortunate to have her friendship, and to have experienced her mentoring. I taught with Jane at both the senior and junior high schools, and during our year together at Forest Lake Senior High School, she re-introduced me to teaching following my ten years away. I couldn't have done it without her.
It was during our many years together teaching at the junior high school that I truly came to love, admire, and respect her. We shared the challenges and rewards of our FACS classrooms with mutual support, guidance, laughter and tears. Jane not only excelled in the classroom, but she took on many responsibilities that supported the faculty, administration, and students. Many committees, leadership positions, and school wide initiatives have benefited from her expertise.
Jane has reached out to bring the value of FACS into the broader fields in education, serving as an instructional coach at the E-12 level in the Q Comp (Quality Compensation) program, and is currently participating in a reading certification program that will benefit all students, and bring reading in the content area into the FACS curriculum.
Jane Bernauer truly does symbolize Family and Consumer Sciences. She serves her profession with excellence. It is my pleasure to nominate her for the AAFCS Virtual Hall of Fame.
