Basic WritingThis site is a general resource page where faculty can learn about different approaches to teaching basic writing courses and about Ball State's basic writing course. Simply put, Ball State's Basic Writing program is designed to help under-prepared students succeed in college. The program consists of ENG 101 and ENG 102, two semester-long courses that are the equivalent of ENG 103. Students who successfully complete ENG 102 go into ENG 104. The history of the program is documented in "Pragmatic Politics: Using Assessment Tools to (Re)Shape a Curriculum" by Linda Hanson Meeker, Spring 1990 (vol 9, issue 1) edition of the Journal of Basic Writing. Program DescriptionIn this section of the site you can find the information specific to Ball State's program--master syllabi, course descriptions, and recommended textbooks.
