Teaching Major Decision Point 4 Requirements1. Degree Requirements
2. Student TeachingFor information on signing up for and completing student teaching consult the site of the Office of Teacher Education Services. Generally, students apply one year before they plan on student teaching. For specific deadlines, consult the Application Schedule for Student Teaching. 3. LAMP RequirementThe LAMP Requirement takes place during Student Teaching. 4. Praxis IIPraxis II: English Language, Lit. and Comp. (#10041)At BSU, all candidates for licensure in English/Language Arts are required to pass the English Language, Literature & Composition test at Decision Point 4. This test is also required for licensure in Indiana. This test is only given in a paper/pencil format. A general flyer from ETS is available outside room 915 TC. We recommend that you take the test the semester before you student teach. If you somehow miss the test or fail it, then you can retake it during your semester of student teaching. Information on Praxis testing can be found on the ETS website. You may also consult this information from Teacher’s College: Testing Requirements article 5. Disposition AssessmentDecision Point 4 disposition assessment takes place during Student Teaching. 6. Professional Growth Plan: Phase ThreeComplete Phase Three of your Professional Growth Plan (PGP): The web site for the PGP can be found at: http://www.bsu.edu/web/pgpbsu. You may also consult this information from Teacher’s College: PGP article. If your scores for the PGP have not been properly recorded in Rgrade, please contact Roberta Cunningham in Teacher's College at 285-5447. 7. Decision Point 4 PortfolioPortfolio assessment for Decision Point 4 takes place during Student Teaching. Your finished portfolio needs to contain the following: 4 sets of reflective statements on the INTASC principle (for each principle, you should include your reflective statements on that principle from DP1, DP2, DP3, and DP4. Thus, your portfolio should include 40 reflective statements total) and 10 artifacts, one for each INTASC principle and 10 accompanying rationales for each artifact. 8. CPR TrainingYou must have this training completed before you apply for a teaching license. We recommend that you complete your CPR certification in the six month period before applying for your teaching license. For most students, this would mean taking it just prior to or during student teaching. If you obtain certification earlier than that, it may expire since the certification is only valid for a one year period and must be renewed. Also, you have to have this training before you can qualify for a substitute teaching license.
