Teaching Major Decision Point 1 Requirements

1. Introductory Course

Complete Introductory Course with C or Better:

  • Before Fall 2008: EDSEC 150.
  • Starting in Fall 2008: ENG 150 or EDSEC 150. We recommend that you enroll in ENG 150 because it is specifically tailored to English/Language Arts teaching majors. You should take EDSEC 150 only in cases where scheduling conflicts prevent you from taking ENG 150. We will continue to accept EDSEC 150 as the introductory course towards the English/Language Arts teaching major.

2. Portfolio

You will begin your portfolio in EDSEC 150 or ENG 150, and your instructor for that course will assess its quality. A general overview of the portfolio system as well as a chart describing what needs to be in the portfolio at each Decision Point stage can be found at this overview on the Digital Portfolios website. The site where you build your portfolio can be found at: http://portfolio.iweb.bsu.edu. You may also consult the following information from Teacher’s College: Digital Portfolios article.

For help with your portfolio, contact pcraig@bsu.edu, call 285-4195, or walk-in at TC 709. The following rubric (or scoring sheet) will be used to assess your Decision Point One Portfolio: Rubric for Decision Point 1 Portfolio

3. Disposition Assessment

Disposition Assessment occurs in EDSEC 150 or ENG 150. For information on Dispositions Assessments see the following information from Teacher’s College: Dispositions article. This page also includes a link to the rubric used to assess your dispositions.
