Sharon Hillman wins A. Jane Morton Award

4/20/2006 - The department is pleased to announce that Sharon Hillman has been awarded the A. Jane Morton Award for 2006.  The Morton Award, the highest honor that a staff member can receive at Ball State, recognizes one full-time staff member annually for excellence through service.

As administrative coordinator, Hillman makes sure the English department runs smoothly.  She manages reports, budgets, and other functions for a department of nearly 170 people. Department faculty consistently praise Sharon for her reliability, her sense of humor, and her dedication. As one supporting letter stated, "we could not function without her."

Professor Hozeski noted that Sharon's service goes beyond her regular job expectations.  "We have many, many extra functions in the department: receptions for visiting speakers, book fairs, fundraisers, births, deaths, emergency surgeries—the list goes on."

Hillman was honored at this year's Staff Recognition and Retirement Awards Program April 20 in the L.A. Pittenger Student Center. The award includes a monetary gift, a framed lithograph, and a bound collection of the nominating letters.

Hillman has worked in the department since 1987. She has served as administrative coordinator since 1995.
