10:00 and 11:00 a.m. in Bracken 225
Please join us on Monday, March 26th at 10-10:50 and 11-11:50 A.M in Bracken Library Room 225 as visiting writer Barbara Shoup, co-author of Story Matters, discusses the craft of writing short fiction. Both events are free and open to the public.
About Story Matters (Houghton Mifflin, 2006): Authors Barbara Shoup and Margaret-Love Denman introduce students to the living art of short fiction by pairing 21 short stories with in-depth, in-person conversations with their accomplished authors. Each writer describes his or her source of ideas, motivation, and writing strategies, to give a personal perspective on the book’s narrative of the elements of short fiction. The writers—from Dave Eggers to Jamaica Kincaid—explain and explore the intent, technique, and meaning of their fiction, offering readers an inspiring and insightful approach to writing short fiction.
Barbara Shoup’s work has appeared in The New York Times, Louisville Review, Rhino, The Writer, Voya, and other magazines. She has authored five novels, and several young adult novels. Currently, she is the writer-in-residence at the Writers’ Center of Indiana, associate faculty member at Indiana University Purdue University at Indianapolis, and contributing editor to the Chicago fiction magazine, Other Voices.
