CAPE Centers

Community Alliance to Promote Education

During this school year, there will be ten after-school Community Learning Centers (CLCs) located throughout Delaware County. These centers serve at-risk elementary children Monday through Thursday and provide an environment for enhancing learning that is linked to classroom teaching and focused on reading and math.

A site coordinator leads the center and is assisted by at least one other teacher liaison from the site school and one or more instructional assistants. Volunteers are used to help provide one-on-one instruction to students in first, second, and third grades.

Volunteers are needed at all ten sites. Individuals typically volunteer for two days per week - M/W or T/R. Volunteers are trained as Reading Coaches and will tutor one student for 30 minutes and then assist in the classroom for another 30 minutes. Training and transportation are  provided by SVS.

Ten sites are working with students throughout Delaware County.
