Master of Arts in Education (MAE) in Elementary Education

 

The MAE in Elementary Education is designed to provide expertise for the master teacher in a 9-12 semester hour focus area of the candidate's choice.  The degree does not meet all standards for an initial teaching license.  In-service elementary teachers may select focus areas in reading, early childhood, or elementary education.  The Master of Arts in Elementary Education consists of:

  Professional Education Core Courses:  9 semester hours

             EDEL 676: Research in Elementary Education (3)

             Choice of Educational Foundations Course  (3)

             Choice of Pedagogy and Curriculum Course  (3)   

Required Elementary Education Courses:  9 semester hours    

            EDEL 600 : Basic Concepts in Elementary (3) Or                                   

            EDEL 640: Early Childhood Education (3)                            

            EDRDG 610: Teaching Reading in the Elementary Schools (3) Or

            EDRDG 615: Early Literacy Development (3)

            EDCUR 610: The Elementary School Curriculum (3) Or

            EDPSY 646: Tests and Measurements (3)

Focus Area: 9 semester hours            

General Elective/Additional Focus Area Course: 3 semester hours

             One course approved by graduate advisor

                                            Total Semester Hours: 30-33

 

All candidates for the MAE in Elementary Education must first be admitted to the Ball State University Graduate School before being admitted to the MAE programs.
