MENTORING OPPORTUNITY

The Excellence in Leadership program is seeking faculty, staff and graduate students to serve as mentors for undergraduate students. If you are interested, please contact the Office of Student Life at 285-3476 or e-mail us at eil@bsu.edu. The deadline for sign up is September 19, 2007.

About EIL

The Excellence in Leadership (EIL) program is open to all students who want to strengthen their leadership skills and understanding of ethics. This two-year program includes workshops, retreats, and lectures on leadership skills; exploration of leadership styles to fit the individual; and teaming with a mentor. Students in EIL can receive academic credit for up to 4 semesters of EDHI enrollment and/or phase completion designation on their leadership transcript.

Mentor Requirements

  • One year commitment
  • Attend a Mentor Orientation Session on September 20 or 21 (time and place TBD)
  • Attend the All-Phase retreat on September 22, 9:00am-2:00pm, where you will meet your mentor team
  • Coordinate a minimum of five mentor team meetings per semester (you and your team set the meeting dates)
  • Help facilitate a team service project during the year. Past service projects have been a minimum of 2 hours working with a local agency, such as Habitat for Humanity, Back-to-School Teacher's Stores, Salvation Army, Muncie Children's Museum and many others.
