EPIC News Article:
Teachers share successes at EPIC's Spring Showcase
Last modified on Oct 24

EPIC teachers from nine schools met with the EPIC Team at the Indiana Humanities Council in Indianapolis to share their success stories and learning moments from the first year of the program in April.

Three teachers who participated in the first year of the grant project at Daniel Webster Family Academy presented their units. Sarah Henderson and Susan White taught a unit about adolesence and used The Diary of Anne Frank to teach their students that all children go through the same experiences regardless of time or other life factors. Gordon Joslin, an art teacher, also shared his unit where he developed activities to encourage students to combine reading with visual art.

Mary Leslie, a teacher from Shortridge Middle School, provided the attendees with a short tutorial of IHC's smartDESKTOP. She shared the various ways she uses it in her daily planning and organization routine for her classes.

Each of the teachers shared their successes, but they also shared problems they experienced along the way. They will continue working with EPIC through December 2007 in mentoring roles for the latest group of teachers to begin working with the collaborative curriculum development and student assessment model.
