She received her Ph.D in Education from the University of North Carolina—Greensboro, where she studied with H. Svi Shapiro and David E. Purpel. Her area of interest within philosophy of education is philosophy for children and education as ethical self-formation. In 2005-6 she was awarded a Faculty Fellow grant from the Virginia Ball Center for Creative Inquiry. She and her students worked extensively with a community group in Marion, Indiana, to create the Faulkner Academy charter school. She served as the editor of Philosophical Studies in Education for 2004-2007. |
