Monday Missive
April 14, 2008

So it is now Wednesday and the Monday Missive is just going out.  This is because several key issues have come up that require our attention – some of which are discussed here and others that will be laid out at the upcoming faculty meeting - but let me start off by bragging on our faculty.

Kudos
Our expertise in research is again being acknowledged by our fields. Ray Dean has been appointed Editor of The Journal of Head Injury and Jerrell Cassady has been re-appointed to the editorial board of The Journal of Educational Psychology

Congratulations to each of you.  Well Done!

Felicia Dixon's Retirement Reception
We will be holding a reception in honor of Dr. Felicia Dixon's many years of service to BSU on Thursday, May 1st between 3:00 – 5:00pm at the EB Ball and Bertha C Center.  We will be having wine, cheese, and assortment of other appetizers. It should be a very good time to celebrate all of Felicia's accomplishments.

Faculty Meeting
Next Wednesday, April 23 from 1:00-2:30pm in TC 012.  The agenda is in your mailbox, but if you have things you would like to add just let me know.

Personnel Selection & Personnel Selection Committee
I am sorry to report that we had a failed statistics position search this year.  This along with Felicia Dixon's position we need to search next year a meeting of this year's and next year's personnel selection committees is in order.  Directly following the faculty meeting on Wednesday, April 23 the personnel selection committee from this year and next year's will meet in TC 012 to discuss positions.

School Psychology Core Faculty Retreat
The School Psychology Core including our new school psychology faculty member Carrie Ball will be meeting to discuss program issues, policies, and perform the yearly student review in a daylong retreat at the E.B. and Bertha C. Ball Center on Tuesday, April 29 (9am-5pm).  Core members should have a copy of the agenda and the areas each will lead. Also, please be sure to give Penny your lunch order.

TC End of the Year Celebration
Don't forget the TC End of the Year Celebration is Saturday, April 26th from 10:00 am to noon in Student Center Cardinal Hall.  This is a great way to end the year by celebrating outstanding faculty and visiting with retirees.  If you plan to attend please reply to the Dean's office by Friday, April 18th.

Tech Information Blog
Mike Modesitt has started blogging useful information about technology opportunities for the Teachers College.  Most of the information is very Apple-centric as Mike points out, but we are an Apple College.  There are links to software titles that might be useful.  Just contact Mike if you need more information about anything you see on the blog.  The blog is updated on Tuesdays or Wednesdays and can be viewed directly at http://tctechinfo.blogspot.com/.

New MAC Operating System - Leopard
Related to tech blog there will be several presentations highlighting the new Apple operating system, Leopard.  You should have seen flyers around, but I will be sure more are placed in your mailboxes today. Mike Modesitt indicates that at the end of a session attendees will have the opportunity to register for a "drop-off" upgrade slot.  The "drop-off" upgrade service will optionally include upgrading the Microsoft Office suite and the iLife suite to their newest version. In the fall most students will have these upgrades and we need to make a real effort to make their experiences.

I hope I have not forgotten anything, but if I have please let me know.

Here is to a great week!
