School Psychology
Pre-practicum and Practicum Experiences
The sequence of field experiences offers a systematic orientation to the practice of school psychology.

During the first year in pre-practicum, you will receive a general orientation to the practice of school psychology in public schools and other agencies by "shadowing" school psychologists, completing observations in general and special education classrooms, attending student study team meetings and case conferences and other appropriate activities. As you attain specific competencies through accompanying course work, you might progress to activities such as psychoeducational evaluation, developing and evaluating interventions, and social skill development. During the first year you will register for 4 hours of academic credit for EDPSY 687, Prepracticum in School Psychology and are expected to accrue 150 hours of field-based experiences.

During the second year you are required to enroll in EDPSY 688, Consultation Practicum (1 hour) and EDPSY 689 Practicum in School Psychology (3 hours).  You must receive permission from the practicum director before enrolling for credit. A total of 500 hours in practicum experiences must be logged prior to beginning internship.

You must successfully complete the practicum requirements before you may advance to an internship. The practicum director will review your portfolio and conduct an exit interview with you to certify that you are ready for an internship.
