Teacher Education Program Admission
For Students with Identified Disabilities*
Requirements for Admission to Teacher Education

For admission to a teaching curriculum and to register in any 300-level and above professional education course, candidates must have:

  1. earned grades of C or better in 100- and 200-level professional education courses and COMM 210 or equivalent;
  2. earned a minimum of 45 credit hours with an overall grade-point average of at least 2.5;
  3. satisfied content requirements specified by the student's licensure area;
  4. met International Society for Technology Education (ISTE) standards at the General Preparation Level;
  5. completed Phase I of the Professional Growth Plan;
  6. maintained clearance from the Office of Student Affairs; and
  7. passed the Praxis I: PPST (Pre-Professional Skills Test) at Indiana Professional Standards Board (IPSB) score levels

Request for Review of Admission Qualifications

If the student has successfully completed 1 through 6 above and has participated in Praxis 1: PPST (Pre Professional Skills Test at least twice and has not obtained the minimum passing score on one or more subtest(s), he/she may submit a letter to the Associate Dean, Teachers College (Room 1008) requesting a proficiency review.  The student must also submit a packet that includes the following:

Documentation of Disability and Record of Accommodations

  1. Documentation of the student's disability and description of related accommodations to be verified from the Disabled Student Development office;
  2. Student-written description of any specific accommodations received prior to entering BSU;

Must include accommodations received during secondary school.

b.      May include accommodations received during middle and elementary school.

3.      Documentation of taking Praxis I, including documentation of appropriate accommodations; 

4.      Copy of most recent score report from ETS.

5.      Letter from ETS stating accommodations provided.

6.      Student-written description of how he or she studied and/or prepared prior to participating in Praxis I (must address each and every time he/she participated in Praxis I)

Documentation of Proficiency

  1. Current BSU transcript;
  2. List of courses in which the student is currently enrolled
  3. Early field experience evaluation from the university supervisor
  4. Early field experience evaluation from the classroom teacher/supervisor
  5. Student-written description of the characteristics that he/she possesses that support the choice to become a professional educator and why he/she believes he/she is proficient in the area(s) of deficiency.
  6.   Additional evidence to support request for admission to Teacher Education including, but not limited to:
  • Resume or curriculum vitae
  • Relevant college work samples; and
  • Letter(s) of support from a college professor(s) or instructor(s) attesting to the student's knowledge, skills and dispositions in relation to the area(s) of deficiency
