The proposed mentoring program is only in the initial planning stages, but the vision for the program is set.
The objective is to prepare undergraduate minority students to apply for and to attend graduate school; and even further, to increase the number of minorities in the pipeline for teaching positions. The purpose for the exploratory committee is to provide a conceptual framework for the proposed program.
While Ball State has existing mentoring initiatives that effectively serve the culturally diverse student populations at Ball State, such as the Louise Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) and the Excel programs, the proposed mentoring program seeks to encourage graduate studies and potentially teaching careers in academia.
