2007 Marshall Scholarship Winner
Jamalat Daoud was recently named as the 2007-2008 Merrill T. Marshall Scholarship recipient!
Jamalat is a doctoral student in the department of Counseling Psychology and Guidance Services. She has done a great deal of diversity-related work. Some of her projects, involvement, and recognition include her organizing a Diversity Workshop, participating in International Festivals through Ball State's International Program Center with the DiverCity program, presenting at the Institute for Wellness and Gerontology, receiving Ball State's Favorite Friend Award for her help with international students, and presenting as a guest speaker about the Israeli culture through her graduate department.
Jamalat reports that "realizing how helpful these activities [have been] in raising the awareness of both Ball State students and community members has just given me the motivation to keep giving more in this area." Jamalat will be working with diversity issues upon returning to her country once she graduates from Ball State. She is planning to work with both the Jewish and Arab populations. She says that she will continue to "organize programs that help educate both nations about each other, which will help eradicate prejudice and racism held by both parties". It is Jamalat's belief that these programs will bring peace to that area.
Congratulations Jamalat!
