Each year, the Office of the Vice President for Enrollment, Marketing, and Communications aggregates enrollment data for freshman matriculant and on-campus enrollments. With regard to diversity, the Fall 2002 Enrollment Synopsis describes the student body with respect to gender, age, and ethnicity. It also summarizes freshman retention by ethnicity and lists the top international countries represented in the student body. The 2003 report shows that 1) women made up well over half of the student body; 2) the proportion of students of color on campus has held steady at approximately 7% since 1999; and 3) the majority of international students on campus were from Asia.
The Office of Academic Assessment and Institutional Research (AAIR) provides data on full-time faculty. In the fall of 2002, approximately 8% of full-time faculty were African American, Asian American, or Hispanic and almost 40% were women.
(The official statistics section for AAIR provides additional diversity-related data: http://www.bsu.edu/web/assessment/stats_commondata.htm)
Data concerning other aspects of diversity, such as sexual orientation or religious affiliation, are rarely collected in a systematic fashion on university campuses and are not currently available.
