George and Frances Ball Distinguished Professor of Statistics

Mir Masoom Ali
Mir Masoom Ali's 30-plus years of service to Ball State includes the establishment of a statistics program, journal editorship and establishment of a biopharmaceutical statistics conference held at Ball State annually since 1978.

Accomplishments

  • Awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash, the state's highest civilian award, in 2002 by Indiana Governor Frank O'Bannon. 
  • The Journal of Statistical Studies, an international journal, in 2002 published a special issue to commemorate his 65th birthday.
  • Inducted as a fellow by the American Statistical Association in 1998.
  • Is a fellow of the Institute of Statisticians and the Royal Statistical Society.
  • Published work in numerous mathematical and statistical journals.
  • Received Ball State's 1992-93 Outstanding Faculty Award and the 1984-85 Outstanding Researcher Award.
  • First recipient of the Bangladesh Statistical Association Qazi Motahar Husain Gold Medal awarded in 1990.

Education

  • Bachelor's and master's degrees in statistics from the University of Dhaka.
  • Master's and doctorate degrees in mathematical statistics from the University of Toronto.
