Mark Whaley is a multi term councillor in the City of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada and one of the driving forces behind its “intelligent community” movement which resulted in Waterloo being named the global Intelligent Community 2007.

An eclectic background as labor leader, arctic adventurer, social activist and nationally recognized environmental leader, Mark recently received the Canadian Urban Leadership Award for his outstanding contribution to life in his community and country.

Together with his iWaterloo team he has captured the essential ingredients that have propelled his community from a small manufacturing center, to a global high tech powerhouse, to a city that is on the threshold of leading the “idea economy” of the 21st century.
