The Video Meta-Reflection (VMR) model is designed to provide a process framework and representational format that pre- and in-service professionals can use to document an emergent practice or professional performance. The model includes four general elements or ”steps”:
- Capture performance using basic cinematic techniques to strengthen the ability to see the performance in detail
- Edit a narrative reflection video using performance lens for editing and reflection
- Review the narrative reflection with a peer or mentor and construct a meta-reflection video using professional lens for editing.
- Construct a web exhibit with the videos embedded as part of larger documentary of performance
Using the VMR Model
While developed for teacher education internships and student teaching, the model can be used for any professional program that emphasizes reflective practice and documentation of professional growth (i.e. digital portfolios).
