Digital Portfolio Seminar Oct. 27

The CTE and EPIC welcome Dr. Helen Barrett as a guest speaker for the 2009-10 CTE Technology Seminar Series. Using new Web 2.0 technologies, today’s digital natives have new ways to construct portfolios as narratives of their academic growth. The Ball State teacher education portfolio model has evolved since 2002 to now incorporate Web 2.0 techniques within a longitudinal view of learning. Dr. Helen Barrett brings these trends to light with a portfolio pedagogy for K-12 and teacher education.

When: Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009 from Noon to 2 PM
  • Reception from Noon to 1 PM
  • Presentation from 1 to 2 PM
Where: TC 406 (Reception and Exhibits) and TC 412 (Presentation)

Everyone is welcome: Students, faculty, and staff. The target audience is teacher education or anyone interested in portfolios as a learning environment.

What: We will have appetizers and refreshments at the reception from Noon to 1 PM in TC 406. Also on display in TC 406 will be Portfolio Lab resources, iStudio resources for multimedia development, and example portfolios. At 1:00 PM we’ll move to TC 412 for Dr. Barrett’s presentation.

Dr. Helen Barrett is an internationally known expert on the design and application of electronic portfolios in teacher education and K-12 schools. She has been researching strategies and technologies for electronic portfolios since 1991, with book chapters, articles, and numerous presentations at scholarly conferences.
