The doctoral degree in computer science at Ball State University is a cognate program.
A cognate is a sequence of courses that are related to each other, but may not be in the same department. Cognates add depth to your doctoral program. You can choose a cognate that is similar to what other students are doing, or create your own. Your cognate program depends upon your interests and needs.
The science doctorate program and the science education doctorate program are both cognates at Ball State which include areas of study in computer science. Each has its own requirements; but for both, you may major in computer science and complete additional courses in other departments.
This cognate is aimed at the Ed.D. in Science candidate who already has the background coursework in computer science that is required of all candidates entering the master of science degree program in computer science, as well as the relevant mathematical background prerequisites to the program.
Additional requirements, costs and financial aid information, and information on how to apply are available at the program Web site.
