Master of Arts in Counseling

A master's degree in counseling will prepare you for a career in the helping professions. The program will help you begin to develop a professional identity as a counselor so that you can work in a variety of community and school settings. It also prepares students for doctoral studies.

An intensive, supervised internship is required, providing real-life work experience in the application of basic psychotherapeutic procedures and evaluation techniques in an approved and appropriate setting. To supplement your graduate study, you are also encouraged to hold student membership in the American Counseling Association (ACA) .

The Department of Counseling Psychology and Guidance Services offers three program options for the MA in counseling (Clinical Mental Health Counseling, School Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling) and a double major in Social Psychology and Counseling.
