The courses and practical experiences in the master's degree in counseling programs are designed to help students achieve specific training goals, including:
- Mastery of the skills necessary to foster natural human and organizational development in individuals, couples, families, and groups seeking assistance
- Knowledge of prevention, consultation, psychoeducation, research design, ethics, traditional psychotherapy, and personal and career counseling in order to develop the basic skills needed to provide services to individuals, couples, families, and different types of organizations
- Familiarity with both theoretical and empirical rationales for choosing certain approaches to help people with their problems
- Knowledge of how to design and implement intervention programs to decrease the incidence of maladaptive behavior
