Meg Calkins, LEED AP, ASLA, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Landscape Architecture at Ball State University where she teaches construction, theory and design. She holds Master’s degrees in both Landscape Architecture and Architecture from the University of California at Berkeley and she has practiced extensively in both Landscape Architecture and Architecture with award winning firms in California and Washington, DC.

Meg’s research and publications focus on process issues and technologies of sustainable site design. She is a frequent Contributing Editor to Landscape Architecture magazine having written twenty articles on sustainable design technologies, and won the Bradford Williams Award in 2003 for her series on green building materials. She is an active member of the Sustainable Sites Initiative (SSI) Materials Committee. She served on the Editorial Board for Landscape Architectural Graphic Standards and contributed chapters on “Sustainable Site Design” and “Environmental and Health Impacts of Concrete”.

Her book, Materials for Sustainable Sites: A Complete Guide to Evaluation, Selection and Use of Sustainable Construction Materials, was released in October 2008. In December 2008, she became an Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Green Professionals.
