DESCRIPTION:<p><b>'Why'd I Just Watch That? Lessons from Entertainment Theory'</b></p>\n\n<p>Jennings Bryant is a respected and prolific researcher of media effects and entertainment theory. He has written or edited 26 scholarly books or textbooks, has authored more than 65 articles in peer-reviewed journals, and has written more than 75 chapters published in edited scholarly books.  Twenty-seven of his articles or papers have received major awards.</p>\n\n<p>Prior to his retirement in 2010, he was distinguished research professor, holder of the Reagan endowed chair of broadcasting, and associate dean for graduate studies and research in the College of Communication and Information Sciences at the University of Alabama.  He received the university's Burnum Distinguished Faculty Award in 2008, the Blackmon-Moody Outstanding Professor Award for 2000, and was president of the International Communication Association (ICA) in 2002-2003.  In 2006, he received a Distinguished Scholar Award from the Broadcast Education Association, was elected a fellow of the International Communication Association, and a Research Pioneer Tribute Essay was published in his honor in the Journal of Broadcasting and Electronic Media ('Jennings Bryant—The ‘Compleat' Scholar'). In 2011, he received the Steven Chaffee Career Productivity Award from ICA.<br />\n\n</p>\n\n
